Customer Reviews

Very Disappointed! I always buy this particular brand/ color from my local store. I wanted to get it asap and decided to try amazon since I could get two for a cheaper price and they would come pretty quickly... Well, unfortunately, it was not worth the savings. The first eye brow pencil broke every single time I pushed it up further (and trust me I have been using this for years, it isn't that I didn't know what I was doing)... within just 5 days I already was completely out of the first eyebrow pencil-- mind you, one stick usually lasts me a MINIMUM of a month- 2 months. The second stick is already the same, breaking non stop and I can tell is almost out. Very disappointed- waste of money 1Was once a favorite I have been using this pencil since they came out in dark blond. But in the last few months the lead breaks off and I barely get a week out of one. Instead of buying locally I ordered through Amazon to see if there was a difference. No such luck this one is also breaking off to the point I worry one of the breaks may get in my eye. A 5 star review six months ago went down to 1. 1Evil twisty thing bent on ruining my mornings! Smooth and pigmented application makes up for it though. This brow pencil is very easy to work with in terms of application. You can go in with light strokes, and it is still pigmented enough to blend in with your brows for a natural appearance. For those who want a more intense look, it doesn't take much pressure to get a darker and precise finish. The pencil tip is rounded and is firm to the touch (feels like a super thin crayon, not creamy) but still transfers color very smoothly and easily. When I initially got this, I actually thought it was broken because it was so hard to twist the actual pencil up! I turned very hard both ways, not sure which direction was correct anymore because they felt equally as stiff, until it finally came up. One reviewer I came across even mentioned that she had to turn it with her teeth (yes, it's that hard to twist)! Most reviews don't seem to have an issue with this though, so I probably am just one of some unfortunate people to have received a hard to turn pencil. I've found that while I can finally twist the product up, it's impossible to retract it, so if you do encounter this problem, I suggest you twist it up little by little to ensure that it doesn't get to the length that it snaps upon application or that the cap won't fit.Even with California's summer heat, the product stays on throughout the day without smudging and retains its color. The comb side of the pencil really doesn't do anything for my brows, but I do use it to comb my eyelashes after mascara application to get out clumps and separate the lashes, so it doesn't look like I only have 5 hairs haha.Overall, hate the evil twisty thing that refuses to surrender the product but love the product itself. Will purchase again when this one runs out! :-)4Lower quality, less product I've been purchasing the dark blonde pencil for years. Agreed with everyone on here, the formulation in the most recent batch I got was worse with less pigment, there is much less product than before based on how long it lasts (only a week or two with light use). This actually makes this product more expensive than a prestige brand pencil that has 3X more product in it for about twice the price. I really liked these, but now I'll be going back to the nicer brand and I don't plan on coming back. 1Shame on Maybelline I'm soooo disappointed. I'm rating this product one star only because there is not an option for NO STARS. I've used this pencil for so many years. They've changed it, the green container is still the same but the pencil is thin as a tiny twig and does not apply the same. In fact, it breaks with the slightest bit of pressure. I actually used the entire pencil in one use because it broke its way on to my eyebrows. Had to throw it in the trash where it belonged. I wouldn't use this now even if it were for free. 1Easy to Apply! This makes makeup application so much easier! It's a very skinny pencil, but I find that it's easy to grip. What I love about this pencil is that I can apply the product easily and precisely along the lines because of the "fine" tip. The tip of the pencil is flat and not slanted like other eyebrow pencils out there. At first, I thought that would be an issue since I'm used to slanted tips, but this product was smooth upon application. It didn't have a waxy feel nor did it look powdery or cakey whatsoever. In fact, after application it looked very natural! This is a great alternative for those on a budget. Also, in order for you to get the product out, you must turn the tip of the pencil clockwise. If you continuously turn it, you won't be able to twist it back. The product will end up sticking out as you may not be able to place the pencil cover back on.As for the brush, I really didn't care much for it. I prefer a spooley brush to blend/even out the product. The color was also as expected. At first, I was bummed out because I really wanted the Dark Brown color (that was supposedly discontinued) since my eyebrows are Black/Dark brown. I really wasn't sure how far off Medium Brown would look on my brows, but thankfully it looks pretty natural. I would say, a little goes a long way with this product. You don't have to press hard at all as I've mentioned it's pretty easy to apply. I've worn it half the day so far at work and it still looks the same as when I first applied it in the morning. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to others looking for a reasonably priced brow pencil as well as for beginners. 4This is not the same Define A Brow I was so excited to find this on Amazon. I should ve known it would not be the same product that I bought in local stores before it was discontinued. This is not in the same packaging (other than the green & brown colors) and is not the same formulation as what was for sale in drugstores a year or so ago. While it is ok, I was looking for that same formulation, color and quality that I d gotten from the original. The color is not the same, but its ok. The formulation causes this one to sometimes come off in little clumps, so the quality is lacking. I ve got to wonder if this is actually a genuine Maybelline - L Oreal USA product. If they have kept that formulation and color and just changed the packaging & name of the original, I wish they d share it with consumers. That shade (Dark Blonde) in the original was the best I d found to complement my fair-neutral complexion. I am a strawberry-blonde with highlights. My natural eyebrows are white as are my eyelashes. 3Waste of money! Barely any product inside! Prepare to waste your money on a deceivingly small amount of product! Not only did they change the formulation so it's now softer and breaks easily, but mine was gone after only 2 weeks! I've been buying this product for a decade, so I knew something was up. I opened up my other brand new package, and turned it up all the way to see how much pencil was really in there... OMG! What a waste!!! Sadly, I'll be looking for a new pencil in the same shade from a different company. 2Don't twist it up! This product was great... Until I rolled it up to see how much product you get. Apparently you can't roll it down. So I had rolled it all the way up and it wouldn't go down. It broke off and I wasted all of the product. (It was about 2 inches of product in case you're wondering.)Before I broke it, I used it once. In that use, I was in love with the color. It's a nice dark blonde/light brown that wasn't red in the slightest and made my eyebrows a fantastic color. The formula wasn't very smooth or creamy. More like an actual pencil. I really liked it though. It has a very fine tip which would be helpful if you're trying to be very precise. If it didn't break I would have kept using it! 4Doesn't last long Good color for me but unfortunately there is like 2 inches of pencil! Doesn't last more than 2 weeks. Also tip breaks so easily!! It sucks because I like the color 2Formulation changed... Hate itThis is awful since formulation change. I have used this for 5+ years and always loved it had it on auto ship for 2 years. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the packaging changed and so did the formulation. It's terrible now. Goes on patchy and super sticky. They changed from carnuba wax to "synthetic Japan wax" it looks and wears awful. Poor decision on the company's part. Will no longer be purchasing2PRODUCT FORMULA HAS CHANGED AND NO LONGER DRAWS A LINE!!!!PRODUCT FORMULA HAS CHANGED AND NO LONGER DRAWS A LINE!!!! I have used this product for YEARS. The containers are longer than the normal ones and the pencil is a lot slimmer. There is almost no pigment in it. I scoured the packaging and these are made in china. I compared this w the normal ones that are real and work properly and those are made/distributed USA/Montreal Canada. Maybelline please change back to the previous formula. This product no longer works properly.1Not like the OriginalThis was my holy grail of eyebrow pencils. I've used these pencils for a number of years. My eyebrows are almost non-existent due to overplucking as a teenager. I always used the Dark Brown but when that color was discontinued, I had to switch to the Medium Brown and apply a bit more of it in order to get the coverage I needed. Earlier this year, I was informed the pencils were out of stock indefinitely. However, I finally received some last month. I'm not happy to report that these latest Define-A-Brow pencils are inferior in every way to the original pencil. The packaging has changed, the pencil tip has changed and is even thinner than it used to be. The pencil is even more fragile and breaks a lot more easily. When comparing the ingredient list of these latest pencils to the original ingredient list, it's completely different. The latest pencils are made Overseas. The original pencils were made in the USA. Will not be ordering again.1Loved the old formula, hate the new formula! Big disappointment! I've been using this pencil for years now. My brows are nonexistent, and this was a lifesaver. However, as other reviewers have noted, this has been reformulated, and it is now virtually non-usable. It immediately broke off as soon as I took the first tiny little swipe on my brow, and little chunks of color were deposited, which looked very unnatural. The color is darker and the overall appearance is greasy, and it is difficult to control. I could have done my eyebrows in the dark with the old formula, but this morning I had to wipe off and start over multiple times before I had something I could leave the house with, and it still looked nowhere near as good as what I used to do with ease with the old pencil. Will not purchase again, big mistake by Maybelline to reformulate such a great product. Very, very disappointed! 1
